Stuck in the City As Summer (Unofficially) Kicks Off This Weekend?

Summary

The unofficial start to the Winnipeg football club's 2007 season, the carnival will also include appearances by Blue Bomber players -- some of whom will be signing autographs -- visits with mascots Buzz and Boomer and performances by the Labatt Blue Lightning Dance Team. Inside the stadium, test your skill at various football activities, such as kicking and passing drills and obstacle courses.

Lace up your runners and head to Oak Hammock Marsh for a special program of outdoor activities, including hour-long marsh trail walks with naturalist guides; van tours of the tall grass prairie, the artesian spring and lesser-known areas of the marsh; and voyageur-style canoe rides through the marsh waters. There are also crafts, animal face painting and marsh animal presentations.

Local fire and paramedic services staff will demonstrate their many life-saving rescue techniques outside The Forks plaza on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Firefighters and paramedics will repel down The Forks Market tower; perform water rescues and CPR and handle hazardous materials. You'll be able to get up close to view fire trucks and historic rescue vehicles. There will be entertainment provided by buskers and clowns and the first 1,000 people who show up will get a free hot dog and drink.
