"He has made victims of all of us," said Gail Summers, who lives across the road from the Browns and was the first person on the scene after the attack. "It will never be the same again."

"There's a certain amount of fear, but I don't think that's the overwhelming feeling at this point. It's the feeling of loss, sadness for Hunter's death and support for the family," said neighbour Matthew Engelmann, 24.

"We can't let this stop the Christmas season. The spirit of giving, the spirit of community is, if anything, stronger right now and I think that's what needs to happen."
