"That's our immediate need," said [Brendan Taman] this week from Oakland, Calif. "You gotta be able to line up for a 40-yard field goal confident you're going to make it. And right now we're not. There are an unlimited number of kickers on the market right now, but they're on the market for a reason.
"There's not a lot of guys we're clamouring to say, 'God, I hope he gets cut,'" Taman said. "There are some guys who may get cut, but they likely won't play for us this year. For example, if a defensive end that we like gets released are we going to then cut (Gavin) Walls or (Tom) Canada? No. And we've got a few receivers that we like, but if one of them came free, would one of them start unless there was an injury? No. "The bottom line is to bring a guy in that's been cut from an NFL camp, and to expect he'll start in the next week or two, is a stretch. They haven't been in our camp, they don't know the system or the game. You'd like to build from within, from what you already have."See the full content of this document
