Pte. Bill Davey, the Manitoba farm labourer who had helped dig the tunnels that would lead him to his death; Lieut. James McClintock, the good-natured son of a farmer from Ormstown, Que., whose business career in Winnipeg was interrupted by war; Capt. Antequil P. Norman, the B.C. veteran of the Boer War whose young family would mourn because he could not resist the call to adventure; privates Bob and Bill Mundle, brothers from Tara, Ont., who would die together not so far from Vimy a year after the ridge was captured; Pte. Fred Morris, the only one of the group to survive the war, though it would cost him dearly; and Thomas Dole, the half-aboriginal soldier from Crerar, Ont., whose brother would never get over seeing him die.
