Summary
Fetzer is one of the most environmentally responsible wineries in California -- all the grapes they grow are organic (they also buy non-organic grapes) and the winery itself is made out of mostly recycled material. Between 1990 and 2009, Fetzer doubled production while reducing waste to landfill by 96 per cent. The Valley Oaks Gewurztraminer shows great varietal characteristics of this grape: apricot and peach, light perfume and spiciness, with a hint of lychee nut. It's just barely off-dry, with peach and apricot flavours showing quite nicely. 86/100
Cono Sur is one of Chile's biggest wineries, and practises some great sustainable winemaking and grape growing. For example, they introduced a white spider to eat the vine-damaging red spider rather than use insecticide. This big Chilean red brings aromas of pencil shavings, black licorice, blackcurrant and black pepper. It's soft and rich, with ripe blackcurrant, plum jam, and toasty vanilla flavours. The tannins, oak and acidity are all fairly mellow, and the wine shows some great finish. An excellent value. 90/100See the full content of this document
