It is the CA profession's view that the new certification rules under AIT could trigger a "race to the bottom" in Canada's public accounting qualification standards. In this scenario, the lowest standards in any one province would become the minimum acceptable standards in any other. Among order impacts, this poses a significant risk to the legislated mandates currently in place in Ontario and Quebec, which are home to the largest of Canada's capital markets.
