COMMONWEALTH Games hurdler Jared MacLeod and 1,500-metre specialist Darolyn Trembath were named as Athletics Manitoba male and female Athletes of the Year last weekend. Female and male athletes of the year in individual events were: sprints, Chantal Grant and Nathan Vadeboncoeur; hurdles, Dana Baker and MacLeod; jumps, Alanna Boudreau and Nathan Labbe; throws, Anita Sudfeld and Patrick Suppes; discus (Charles Sigfusson Award), Mathew Sedor; middle distance, Trembath and Sam Jerema; long distance, Sarah-Anne Brault and Brian Walker; combined events, Amber Anseeuw and Stefan Arnason; road running, Kathy Wiens and Mike Booth.

Age-group girl and boy winners were: Peewee, Courtney Zajac and Eric Guy; Bantam, Kate Simes and Kristoff Hunter; Midget, Cayla Adamson, Jaclyn Adamson and Jordan Saccucci; Juvenile, Stephanie Romanson, Brault and Greg Miller; Junior, Caley Miskimmin and Labbe; Senior, Trembath and MacLeod.

TONY Vasilarakis, of the Brandon Wheat Kings, is the DEKALB Defensive Player of the Week in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League. Vasilarakis allowed only two goals in two games -- a 2-1 victory over Norman, stopping 36 of 37 shots, and he had 24 saves in a 6 -1 win over Eastman.
