A geologist from the Timmins area mentioned to [Fabien Kenig] that rocks buried in the region were loaded with oily compounds. Kenig soon came to Timmins for a first-hand look at the rocks in the Dome Mine, which turned out to be scientific gold -- the oily compounds proved to be "molecular fossils or skeletons" of some of the world's oldest microbes.
