"During the trip he didn't want to eat or drink or anything, he just wanted to get home," said Balex Kabamba of Winnipeg. The nurse volunteered to accompany the couple to Kinshasa where they were reunited with loved ones they thought they'd never live to see again.

"I'm telling him 'One more flight -- in three hours we'll be in Kinshasa'," Kabamba told [Abedi Kipala], who responded "'In Kinshasa?' He knew."
