Derian Bird wandered from his home Thursday morning and it wasn't until an hour later that a 17-year-old family babysitter watching him and his two older siblings noted his absence. The child's uncle discovered the toddler's mangled remains on a neighbour's property 200 metres away, not far from several chained and loose dogs.
Manitoba's Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Thambirajah Balachandra said yesterday, "I love my dog. And I know dog lovers are going to hate me for this, but I'd rather see 1,000 dogs die before I see a child mauled.""It's a very complicated issue. People love their dogs and at the same time, things are completely different on reserves.
