[BRIAN Sinclair] and [Russell] shared a speech impediment that made it hard for them to be understood, said [Ken McGhie]. They had come to Winnipeg from the reserve looking for a better life they never found, said McGhie. Brian Sinclair was a slight, quiet fellow whose manner of speech made it sound like he was "mumbling," said McGhie.

"I said 'Excuse me -- maybe there's something wrong with him. There's hardly anyone here and lots of open seats.' I got mad at her."

"I will never go by someone lying on the street without checking to make sure they're OK," [Linda Chartrand] said. "No one knows what kind of problems people have. We're all human."
