The attention to detail is evident in the kitchen where A&S created a granite-topped island of the same finish used on the fireplace in the great room and crafted cabinets of two different materials: stainless steel (with opaque doors) and maple for a clean contemporary look. "This island was designed to mimic what we did on the fireplace; it is to carry the flow from the kitchen to the great room," says [Frank Spezzano].

"This is very modern; it's about as modern as you can get," says Spezzano. "We went with some double volume spaces, the iron railing look, the darker colours, clean lines, the square corners instead of the round. All the detailing on the kitchen and fireplace is all straight square lines. We were looking for a very modern look.
