Sudbury's Vianet is expanding their internet services south again.

This time they're digging deeper into rural southern Ontario, thanks to support from the provincial and federal government.

In January, they announced that the two levels of government would contribute $825,000 each for Vianet to expand their fibre optic broadband service to rural residents in King Township, about an hour north of Toronto.

The project will cost a total of $3.3 million, so the funding will cover half of the costs.

Residents will have to pay an installation fee, which Vianet's director of business development, Brian McCullagh, said will be comparable to their normal rates.

However, there will also be a "per meter" fee based on how far off the road the customer is.
