Volunteers' Work Gets Recognition

"We picked him because if you look through his bio and what see what he's done in the community and for the community -- he's a real leader and an example for people," said Dennis Dyck, Volunteer Manitoba's executive director.

He started out volunteering when he was 12 and became involved with the Variety, the Children's Charity of Manitoba, in his teens. He's has gone on to help many other organizations including Rainbow Stage, CancerCare Manitoba, Winnipeg Harvest, and St. Amant Centre.

"You can tend to get a little jaded about what it's all about," said [Louis Trepel]. "For me, it's getting back to the grassroots -- about why you're doing what you're doing."
