Summary


They did it first, and last night's show at the MTS Centre showed they remain better at what they do than most bands half their age. Each member of the touring quintet (guitarist Brett Gurewitz doesn't hit the road anymore) is in his 40s but aging hasn't slowed any of them down. Guitarists Greg Hetson -- who will return here in a few weeks playing with the Circle Jerks -- and Brian Baker can still rip through songs like Leave Mine to Me, I Want to Conquer the World, Do What You Want and 1982's F-- Armageddon This is Hell with as much speed as ever, while bassist Jay Bentley and drummer Brooks Wackermen are a powerfully thunderous rhythm section.

Then there's vocalist Greg Graffin -- a doctor with a Ph.D. in biology -- who is the group's heart and soul. He is considered one of punk's most political orators, but skipped lecturing between songs, preferring to let the anti-war, anti-capitalist, anti-government lyrics speak for themselves.
