"I bet if I went to houses in a Metis community, in every second house there would be someone with diabetes. But if you ask the province, you'll find out it has an aboriginal plan, but not a Metis specific one."

Dr. Judith Bartlett, the director of MMF's Health and Wellness Department, said it is hoped the information collected will help Manitoba Health set up programs and services to better service the needs of Metis people. She said there are 66,000 Metis people in the province with half of them living in Winnipeg.
