Culex tarsalis, the mosquito that transmits West Nile virus to humans, doesn't usually appear until mid- to late June. July, August and early September mark the riskiest months for getting West Nile.

West Nile virus has killed three [Manitobans]. About 80 per cent of people with West Nile don't even have symptoms.

Pamphlets on West Nile should be available in the next few weeks at local public health offices. Over the summer, the province will be issuing updates on West Nile through the media and on the West Nile website.
