Westman Inductees Will Feel Right at Home

Summary

Hamiota's [DALLAS Smith], who became known as the stay-at-home defenceman paired with amazing end-to-end rusher Bobby Orr, and [Bill Fairbairn], the checking forward from Brandon who scored more goals than he ever expected, will be inducted into the hall April 21 at Brandon's Keystone Centre.

They'll join basketball's Jerry Hemmings, John Carson and Beth Cochran, golfer Dan Halldorson and curler Bryan Wood, among others, who'll be honoured as the Hall of Fame, for the first time, takes its act beyond the Perimeter Highway to celebrate the inductions where the athletes grew up.

"We're trying to leave a footprint of the hall of fame beyond the Perimeter... And all those ones that weren't successful in this induction will go into the regular selection binder for consideration in November. We figure if we can make it fly in [Westman] it'd be a good template for taking it into major regions."
