Summary
After an inspirational dream reminded him of the connections between bears and humans, Vancouver journalist and novelist Bill Payton became "determined to get up close and experience being in a place where humans are not the masters of all we see -- a place where we at least one link down the food chain."
He travelled to India, France, Cambodia and even Manitoba's own Churchill to examine the political, social, cultural and natural habitats of bears. He tried to get past the mysteries and myths about these amazing creatures and assess their chances for survival.Payton's chapter on Churchill may just inspire more Manitobans to take advantage of the opportunities in our own backyard and head north to visit the "Polar Bear Capital of the World."See the full content of this document
