"Those demons I had, that's the biggest victory I had of all -- conquering those," [Alan Cuthbertson] said. "I had years and years of problems with... well, it's documented. Everyone knows. So having beaten that, that's my biggest victory."

Cuthbertson's demons -- alcoholism and, mostly, cocaine -- threatened to end an otherwise spectacular career. He lost his jockey's licence in B.C. in 2004 for testing positive for cocaine.

Well, just listen: "I'm really enjoying it. I'm not putting any time frame on it... I love riding horses. I'm getting horses that are fun to ride and can compete. And as long as that's happening, it's enjoyable."
