"It was kind of like a city amateur tournament and since I was here at summer session and some of the (team's) guys were in town, we played and supported one of the local courses," he said. "I'm not putting it down and they do a great job, but it's nothing to write home about.

"The prize, however, that's a different story, but I can't accept it because I'm not a professional. Well, I could, but then I wouldn't go to school next year."

The Optimist event continues to enjoy great success in Manitoba, thanks in large part to its sponsors Manitoba Hydro, the RCGA, Callaway Golf, the PGA of Manitoba, Optimist International and Golf Manitoba.
