Another almost-conventional short is Damien Ferland's The Lady of the House, a weightless ghost story in which Ferland stars as a young man haunted by the crazy old lady (played by not-old Eve Rice of Vav Jungle) who used to sleep in his bed. The lad's parents mistake the sounds of their son's distress as auto-erotic frenzy. Don't wait for a punchline, because that's about it.
Far more interesting is Dead Mothers and Kitchen Floors, a collaboration by Arlea Ashcroft and Andrea von Wichert, offering one woman's disturbing reaction to her mother's death, adapted from von Wichert's short story On Maternal Death. Consider it a feminine counterpart to Guy Maddin's The Dead Father with sex, violence, self-destructive behaviour and pure visceral emotion, told in three minutes and 20 seconds flat.Winnipeg Film Group Exposes Shorts
