Summary


The choreographer says he has fallen in love with our legislature, and wanted to create a site-specific "intuitive and sensual response to the building." The meditative performance there will include dancers in translucent costumes portraying "early lifeforms," as well as "men who will be more formally dressed, lifting and carrying these beings."

Ballet, contemporary dance and powwow dance are, of course, vastly different traditions. "But at a certain level they all come together," says [Bill Coleman]. "When people excel, when people express extreme emotion and express themselves, really clearly and honestly with grace, those differences disappear."

* Sunday at 7:30 p.m. at Circle of Life Thunderbird House, there's "family fun, food and fancy footwork." National Ballet of Canada principals Greta Hodgkinson and Aleksander Antonijevic will perform excerpts from [George Balanchine]'s landmark ballet Apollo (1928). The program also includes significant works by [Jose Limon], [Ted Shawn], James Kudelka and [David Earle], and vocals by counter-tenor [Daniel Taylor].
