ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Andrew Pirie is a professor of law at the University of Victoria, British
Columbia, Canada. Professor Pirie has a long-time relationship with
the ADR movement. He was a founding director of the Mediation
Development Association of British Columbia, Co-Chair of the Con-
flict Resolution Council of British Columbia, a member of the Fund for
Dispute Resolution in Ontario, a Visiting Professor at the University of
Ottawa in 1985 teaching ADR, a litigation associate with the law firm
of Osler, Hoskin and Harcourt, and the Executive Director of the UVic
Institute for Dispute Resolution from 1989 to 1996.
Professor Pirie teaches courses in Dispute Resolution: Theories and
Skills, Mediation and Lawyers, Negotiation, and Civil Procedure, and
he has conducted ADR training workshops in Canada and the United
States and in other countries such as Cambodia, England, Fiji, and
Thailand. Andrew has acted as a mediator in various dispute settings.
He is co-editor of Qualifications for Dispute Resolution: Perspectives on
the Debate and the author of several shorter works on ADR.
