George S. Takach is a Toronto-based partner of McCarthy Tétrault,
where he is National Practice Group Leader of the Technology, Com-
munications and Intellectual Property Group. George’s practice empha-
sizes software, computers, technology, tech financing/tech M&A, and
related matters. A recent nationwide survey conducted by Lexpert, a
peer review-based law directory publisher, ranked George among a
handful of leading lawyers in Canada in the computer law field. This
survey also found McCarthy Tétrault to have the strongest computer
law practice in Canada.
Since 1990 George has been an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall
Law School, York University, teaching a course titled “Computers,
Information, and the Law.” George has a BA (Hons.) in political econ-
omy from the University of Toronto; the third year of this degree was
completed at the Institut d’Études Politique, Université d’Aix-Mar-
seilles, France. He also has an MA in international relations from the
Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University
in Ottawa. He earned his JD from the Faculty of Law, University of
Toronto, where he graduated on the Dean’s List.
What spare time George has he spends with the two women in his
life: his wife, Janis, and their daughter, Natalie. They especially enjoy
skiing and travelling together.
