About the Authors

Michelle Roy McSpurren is a full-time professor and program coordinator of the para-

legal program in the Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies at Sheridan Col-

lege. Professor Roy McSpurren has taught a variety of legal subjects to paralegal, law clerk,

business, accounting, and marketing students at various colleges. She has over thirteen

years of teaching experience and has been teaching at Sheridan College for ten years.

Professor Roy McSpurren holds an LLB degree from Osgoode Hall Law School and is

a member of the Ontario Bar. She obtained her MA from York University, specializing in

English. Her BA (Hons) degree, conferred by that same university, emphasized creative

writing in addition to English.

Professor Roy McSpurren’s areas of academic interest include legal writing, legal

research, paralegal practice management, torts, contracts, and business law. She regularly

teaches courses in all these areas. Prior to teaching, Professor Roy McSpurren worked in

legal publishing for several years and has edited and contributed to journals, newsletters,

and other publications in the areas of contracts, torts, education law, condominium law,

corporate law, and business law.

Rosemary Bocska, BA (Hons), LLB, is a research lawyer and a member of the Ontario

Bar. She provides in-depth legal research, factum-drafting, legal opinions, and legal

writing on a broad range of topics for small and mid-sized law firms across Canada. She

also writes current-awareness pieces, newsletters, and blog posts for lawyers’ websites

and marketing efforts.

Alongside her research practice, Rosemary Bocska has also worked both in-house and

on a freelance basis for various legal publishers, performing research and manuscript

writing, and providing consulting services in connection with online legal information

and its related technology. She has written for more than 80 law publications, legal

newspapers, and current-awareness services covering an array of topics. She is also the

updating author of numerous respected legal publications, including several that focus on

employment law, real estate law, mortgages, and professional liability.
