ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Janet Walker, CM, BA (Hons), MA, LLB, DPhil (Oxon), is distin-

guished researc h professor of law and former ass ociate dean of Osgoode

Hall Law School. Professor Walker specializes in domestic and inter-

national procedural law, including conict of laws and inter nation-

al commercial arbitration. She is the author of Canadian Conict of

Laws, Halsbur y’s Laws of Canada: Conict of Laws; co-author of Common

Law, Civil Law, and the Future of Categories; the general editor of the 6th

to 9th editions ofThe Civil Litigation Process: Cases and Materials, and

the rst three edit ions of Class Actions in Canada. Janet is an honorary

secretary general of the International Association of Procedural Law

and an independent arbitrator in commercial and t reaty disputes.

Lorne Sossin, BA, MA, PhD, LLB, LLM, JSD, is a judge of the Court

of Appeal for Ontario. He previously served as P rofessor and Dean of

Osgoode Hall Law School, York University and as Professor and As -

sociate Dean at the Faculty of Law, University of Toronto. His publica-

tions include Boundaries of Judicial Re view: The Law of Justiciability in

Canada, 3rd edition (Toronto: Thomson Reuters, 2024) (with Gerard J.

Kennedy) and Administrative Law in Practice: Principles and Advocacy

(Toronto: Emond, 2018) (with Emily Law rence).

Erik S. Knutsen, HBA, JD, LLM (Harvard) is a Professor at the Q ueen’s

University Faculty of Law in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Hi s areas of

academic interest include tort, insurance law, civil procedure and the

civil litigation system, hea lth law, and medical liabil ity. He is the author

of Halsburys Laws of Canada – Insurance, a co-author of Canadian Tort
