About the Authors
Dr. Ju dith Daylen received her M.A. in cognitive psychology in ,
and her Ph.D. in clinical psychology in  from the University of Brit-
ish Columbia. For the past twenty years, Dr. Daylen has worked primarily
with victims of sexual and physical assau lt. She has worked as a volunteer in
a rape crisi s centre and has provided individual a nd group treatment to sex-
ual assault victims a s well as training to a wide range of mental health and
legal professionals. Currently, Dr. Daylen works as a clinical and consult-
ing psycholog ist, providing con sultation to lawyers a nd assessments of sex-
ual assault victims in civil litigation, class action lawsuits, and the Indian
Residential School Alternative Dispute Resolution process. Dr. Daylen has
published research on victims and witnesses of crime and has expertise in
the dynamics of sexual assaults and childhood sexual abuse, a ssessment of
the eects of trauma on psychological functioning and memory, and as-
sessment of the credibility of allegations of abuse.
Wendy van Tongeren Harvey received her B.A . from the University
of British Columbia in  and her LL.B. from ueen’s Law School in
. She is a member of both the Ontario and the British Columbia Bars.
Since , Ms. van Tongeren Harvey has specialized in the prosecution
of sex crimes and crimes against vulnerable persons, such as children and
persons with disabilities. She has lectured throughout Canada and inter-
nationally and has been an expert witness on Canadia n legislative reform
before parliamentary committees. In addition, she has played a signicant
role in training police, Crown, and social workers across the country. In
, she had two secondments: rst, as a headquarters lawyer assigned
to implement Bill C- and to assist with policy review of the British Col-
umbia child abuse and sexual assault policies; and second, as a visiting
