Acknowledgments

We would like to start our acknowledgments by thanking Justice Enzo Rondinelli

for inviting us to participate in the Criminal Law Series. We also wish to express our

gratitude to both Brian Greenspan and Justice Rondinelli for believing that a text on

the prosecution and defence of offences against children could have a meaningful

place in their project with Emond.

Next, we would like to thank all of the immensely talented people at Emond who

poured so many countless hours of work and dedication into the preparation and

publication of this text. We are especially grateful and indebted to Una Verdandi,

Dale Clarry, Valerie Adams, Kristiina Paul, Kelly Dickson, Heather Gough, Danann

Hawes, and Natalie Berchem.

Special thanks, as well, to Emily Lam, our co-author for the first edition of this

text, and to Meredith Kirkland-Burke and Janeen Moddejonge for their chapter on

Of course, it was a great privilege for us to have the Honourable Susan E Lang

write the foreword to this text. She has made such a huge contribution to the admin-

istration of justice throughout her years as a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of

Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal, and as the Independent Reviewer of the

Motherisk Hair Analysis Review. Her work serves as a constant reminder to all par-

ticipants in the justice system of the need for fair treatment of both children and those

accused of child abuse. Thank you so much, Justice Lang, for reviewing the text and

for writing such an insightful foreword to the text.

Finally, we need to give a very special thank you to our families for their love and

support throughout the entire process of writing this text, and for all of the many

sacrifices that they made along the way in order to allow us to complete this project.
