This
project
is
something
we
have
been
living
with
over
an
extended
period
of
time,
and
as
a
result,
there
are
many
people
and
organizations
that
we
wish
to
acknowledge
with
appreciation.
In
2006,
we
produced
a
report
for
the
now
defunct
Law
Commission
of
Canada
titled
"Global
Reach,
Local
Grasp:
Constructing
Extraterritor
ial
Jurisdiction
in
the
Age
of
Globalization.
The
report
we
produced,
which
was
later
published
in
the
Canadian
Journal
of
Law
and
Technol
ogy,
1
laid
the
foundation
for
our
project.
We
are
grateful
to
the
Law
Com
mission
of
Canada
for
its
enthusiasm
and
interest
in
the
subject,
and
for
the
helpful
feedback
we
received
from
the
Commission
chair,
Yves
Le
Bouthillier,
and
from
the
reviewers
of
our
report.
The
project,
which
has
ultimately
led
to
this
book,
was
supported
by
a
three-year
Standard
Research
Grant
from
the
Social
Sciences
and
Hu
manities
Research
Council
of
Canada
(SSHRC).
Funding
from
this
grant
enabled
us
to
hire
a
number
of
excellent
research
assistants.
We
are
very
grateful
to
Kokouvi
Akakpo,
Stefan
Currie-Roberts,
Aaron
Felt,
Carol
Fleischhaker,
Alex
Gorlewski,
Jim
Janson,
Breann
Kirincich,
Charlotte
Morden,
Jenny
Rodopoulos,
Lee
Seshagiri,
Jenna
Wates,
and
Alexandra
Diebel
for
their
research
assistance.
In
particular,
we
are
most
appre
ciative
to
Alexandra
Diebel
for
her
sterling
assistance
in
preparing
the
manuscript
for
publication.
