I would like to acknowledge both my publisher, Irwin Law, for all their
valuable support and advice over the years; and especial ly, my webmis-
tress, colleague, and friend, Sherr y Colbourne, president of Social Mogul
Marketing. I would also like to ack nowledge my colleagues at the Centre
of Forensic Sciences in their amazing new building — t he Forensic Ser-
vices and Coroner’s Complex in Toronto. Jef‌f Teitlebaum, the forensic
librarian of the Washington State Forensic Laboratory Services Bureau,
and Maryan ne Brenton and Tara Knot of the H. Ward Smith Library
at the Centre of Forensic Sciences have been invaluable at keeping me
abreast of the latest forensic alcohol literature.
I would also like to acknowledge Josh Dale, the executive director/
CFO of the California DUI Lawyers Association, and Alex Mad rigal II
of the Southwestern Association of Forensic Scientists, who organized
and invited me to lecture at their wonderful forensic alcohol workshops.
Sadly, one of my early mentors of the Centre of Forensic Sciences —
Sargent Norm Shaw of the Ontario Provi ncial Police — recently passed
away. His boundless energy, dedication, photographic memory, and
knowledge greatly inf‌luenced this young Breathalyzer tech nician on his
career path .
Lastly, I could not have done all this without the tremendous sup-
port of my fantastic and understa nding spouse, Penelope Connor; our
children and their spouses, A lexander and Ginny, and Kathleen and
Kris; and our wonderful g randchildren, Chloe, Simon, Calvin, and A lice,
who make it all worthwhile.
