Federal Court of Canada - Jurisdiction of the Trial Division - A terminal operator at Vancouver, British Columbia was joined as a defendant in an action for damages for the loss of goods shipped from Japan to Toronto, Ontario - The Federal Court of Appeal held that the Federal Court of Canada had jurisdiction so as to enable it to entertain the claim against the terminal operator because the activities of the terminal operator were so connected with the carriage of goods by sea that the activities fell within the meaning of the words "navigation and shipping" a subject matter assigned to the federal government.
