On May 1, 2006, the Alberta Court of Appeal upheld the constitutionality of provincial legislation that precluded teachers from sitting as elected school board trustees anywhere in Alberta. This affected several Alberta teachers who ran and were elected as school board trustees in the October 2004 election. As a result of the Appeal Court's decision, they were disqualified from sitting as trustees. The teachers are asking for permission to appeal the ruling to the Supreme Court of Canada...
