When Lynn Bulloch started her career as a TV reporter she never imagined she would later transition to public relations and marketing.

"Changing my career when I did, in my early 30s, I was concerned," she said.

"Would I have to start at the bottom?"

She worked for CTV in London for about seven years, but later decided to move back to her hometown: Sudbury.

After her return, she accepted a public relations job with Cambrian College.

Bulloch is now the marketing manager at Cambrian and says could not be happier with the decisions that brought her to that point in her career.

Sudbury's English-language community college offered Bulloch the excitement and constant change she got out of journalism, but also gave her stability and a solid path for future career development.

College offers its full-time staff the same opportunities it extends to its students: chances to better their lives through education.

Each full-time employee can enrol in any class at the college for only $20.

Staff can also apply for an education loan plan to improve their skills. Bulloch has enrolled in a French as a second language class, at Cambrian's sister college, College Boreal, where she can get reimbursed for up to 80 per cent of her tuition costs.

Cambrian's education benefits extend to full-time employees' spouses and dependents as well. The college covers tuition fees for both groups.

"It really shows the commitment to lifelong learning," said Alison De Luisa, Cambrian's executive director of human resources.

Career advancement

When Bulloch transitioned to Cambrian from the hustle and bustle of TV journalism she worried her new workplace might turn out to be too static for her tastes.

But she soon found out that working at Cambrian would offer her exciting new challenges to tackle each day.

"As a person who craves change, I love it," she said. "There's change happening all the time."

Bulloch started at Cambrian as a communications officer and was able to advance to the position of marketing manager.
