In addition to the various directories already discussed above, there are a number of extremely useful reference materials freely available on the Internet that include dictionaries, encyclopedias, currency converters, translation services, and news sites. The biggest development in free online reference tools in the last five years is Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia (www.wikipedia.org). With more than 14 million articles in more than 260 languages, Wikipedia has developed into not only a convenient reference resource but also a reliable one, due in part to its open and collaborative editing.11Table 5.8 sets out some general reference sites available on the Internet, along with several subject-specific reference sites.
