Fishing equipment manufacturer expanding facility: Black Fox Fishing will purchase equipment, secure trademark.

Black Fox Fishing in Batchewana First Nation has landed $50,000 in provincial funding to expand its manufacturing capabilities.

The company, founded and operated by Brendan Syrette, manufactures 'the Trigger,' a device that automatically sets an ice-fishing hook to help catch fish.

Designed by Syrette, and made of steel and plastic, the product is manufactured and assembled in Northern Ontario and available for sale across Canada and the U.S., including at a number of Canadian Tire stores.

Syrette will use the funds to secure a trademark and purchase equipment for a manufacturing facility, which is expected to create three fulltime jobs.

"We're proud to make a product that's designed and manufactured locally," Syrette said in a March 29 news release.

"This investment will help us grow the business, hire new staff and continue making the product here in Northern Ontario."
