FOREWORD

Congratulations on 20 ye ars of publication of Appeal: Review of Cu rrent Law and Law
Reform. e current editoria l board and the editorial boards of eac h of the previous years
of Appeal should rig htly consider the success of t he Journal as a major accomplis hment
in which all have played a n important role.
Over the years Appea l has changed it s look and grown in size from the 50-70 pages of the
early years to as much a s 160 pages in recent years. It ha s drawn increasi ng numbers of
submissions from UVic students a nd authors beyond the Island. e Journa l has, over
two decades, con sistently published high quality artic les, essays and com mentaries.
As a student-run publication, Appeal ha s been instrumenta l in promoting student
scholarship throug h providing an important avenue of opinion and perspective and an
outlet for the work of many students at UVic a nd at other law schools.
My thanks to the numerous nancial supporter s of Appeal for their recognition of the
role that a student-run law journal ca n play in a Law Faculty a nd for the benets that
accrue to the students (as editors a nd writers) in the annual production of the Journal.
e Law School takes g reat pride in Appeal.
