Statutes and regulations are ordinarily given a short title, the name by which you may refer to the statute. Use the short title plus the balance of the citation (year, chapter number, and source) when citing statutes or regulations. Similar rules are also applied to bills and other legislative documents. Refer to Chapter 2 of the MCGILL Guide for more information on citing legislation, or consider the following examples of selected federal legislative citations:

· Consolidated Statute: National Anthem Act, R.S.C. 1985, c. N-2

· Annual Statute: Nuclear Fuel Waste Act, S.C. 2002, c. 23
