GAMING & LOTTERIES
As various governments in Canada are becoming increasingly dependant upon the revenue
generated from lottery schemes and provincially established and regulated casinos, this area
of the law is rapidly becoming more developed. It involves all facets of gambling, horse and
dog racing, lotteries, casinos, and charitable gaming. The criminal aspects of gambling are
federal in scope, by way of the Criminal Code, but the licensing of gaming and lotteries is a
provincial matter. However, there is some constitutional confusion with regard to gaming on
aboriginal reserves, which are normally deemed to be federal in jurisdiction. Related topics:

JEUX ET LOTERIES
Le jeu et le pari sont prévus au Code civil comme contrat nommé. La réglementation des loteries
relève du droit ADMINISTRATIF et les loteries illégales du droit CRIMINEL.
