Just as the availability of free online legislation has greatly improved over the last five years, so has the availability of free case law. Once again, CANLII is the best "clearing house" for free online Canadian case law, although the websites of the federal and provincial courts also generally provide access to their recent judgments and other court-related information. Table 5.12 sets out a list of the website addresses for those Canadian court websites that release their judgments for free on the Internet, along with the Canadian Legal Information Institute. In most cases, using the CANLII website will be the preferred method of accessing free Canadian case law, although in some situations you may need or want to visit the actual court website as well.
