Abstract: Class proceeding s are often high-prof‌ile cases, with
important legal, soci al, and practical consequences. In t his
way, they resemble other kinds of test-case or public interest
litigation, like constitutional challenges. Unlike those types
of cases, however, class proceedings attract intervenors with
less frequency and w ith more uncertain results. Thi s article
reviews the exi sting jurisprudence on intervent ions by and in
class proceedi ngs, identif‌ies recurring themes a nd outcomes,
and highlights t he key judicial reasoning. The article closes
by outlining a principled approach to addressing interven-
tions in class proceedings and by class representatives.
