MOTOR VEHICLE LAW

Canada is a country of vast distances, most of which are traversed by motor vehicle. This topic

concerns the law as it applies to these vehicles (cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.). It is a matter of

mostly provincial jurisdiction, by way of the various provincial highway traff‌ic codes. There is

some federal involvement, however, in that there are number of offences in the Criminal Code

that deal with the operation of a motor vehicle (e.g., dangerous operation at section 249, oper-

ation while impaired at section 253, and failure to remain at the scene of an accident at section

252). Most of the titles under this topic deal with motor vehicle related crimes. Related topics:

VÉHICULES AUTOMOBILES

L’immensité du pays explique en grande partie l’usage de l’automobile. Ce domaine juridique

qui couvre les véhicules (autos, motos, camions), est principalement de juridiction provinciale.

Certaines infractions graves sont bien entendu du domaine criminel cf. aa. 249, 252 et 253 C.
