Scope Criminal law in Canada is generally governed by federal law, most often the Criminal Code, R.S.C. 1985, c. C-46, the Youth Criminal Justice Act, S.C. 2002, c. 1, and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, S.C. 1996, c. 19. Offences under provincial statutes also exist. Case law is highly relevant. Young offenders law is also included in this section.
