La Chambre a tenu une séance spéciale le 25 octobre 2007 pour élire un Président suite à la nomination de l'ancien Président, Cecil Clarke, comme ministre de la Justice et procureur général. Alfred MacLeod, député de Cape Breton West, a été élu Président et Wayne Gaudet, député de Clare, a été élu vice-président.
À cette même séance, la nouvelle députée de Cole Harbour Eastern Passage, Becky Kent, élue lors d'une élection partielle pour combler le siège laissé vacant par la démission de Kevin Deveaux, a été présentée à la Chambre et a commencé à siéger.
Après l'élection du Président et du vice-président, la Chambre a ajourné ses travaux et les a repris le 22 novembre afin que le lieutenant-gouverneur puisse proroger la session et en commencer une nouvelle en faisant la lecture du discours du Trône.
Le projet de loi le plus controversé de cette séance n'a pas été adopté. S'il l'avait été, il aurait privé les infirmières du droit de faire la grève, et les grèves auraient dorénavant été réglées par arbitrage exécutoire. Le syndicat des infirmières et les deux partis de l'opposition s'y sont vivement opposés. Le gouvernement l'a néanmoins présenté comme sa première mesure législative et l'a mis à l'étude à l'étape de la deuxième lecture. Après quelques heures, cependant, le gouvernement a ajourné le débat et n'a plus remis le projet de loi à l'étude.
