1 INTRODUCTION

[1] In 2011, fellow lawyer Michelle Kelly and I signed a contract with

Irwin L aw. We were tasked to write a book, to be titled Condominium

Law, intended to be a general, national-in-scope contr ibution to their

comprehensive Essential Law Series. With that, you might ask, what

happened to my co-author, the title, and the publisher? Obviously, this

journey faced heavy sea s and headwinds. The first rogue wave came

soon after in 2012. To great surprise, the Province of Ont ario embarked

on an ambitious, wholescale overhaul of the Condominium Act, 1998,1

culminating with the pass age of the Protecting Condominium Owners

Act, 2015.2 In 2014, Ms. Kelly elected to seek new horizons and sailed

onwards. In 2019, as writi ng began in earnest, it was to be overturned

by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In 2022, with the manuscript well

underway, my laptop was stolen from my car. While backups were par-

tially employed, a great deal of drafting washed overboard. If you are

the thief who stole my computer, please feel free to compare this book

with the manuscript you have. I would welcome any suggestions, no

questions asked.
