PRISON LAW

This topic deals with the laws governing corrections and correctional institutions. Jurisdiction

is shared between the federal government (who have responsibility for penitentiaries) and the

provinces (prisons and jails). More can be found on this topic in the areas of penology, crim-

inology, and sociology than in law. Related topics: CRIMINAL LAW, SENTENCING, YOUNG

OFFENDERS.

On traite ici du système dans l’ensemble et des droits des prisonniers. Rappelons que la Loi

constitionnelle de 1867 partage les competences entre le fédéral (pénitenciers, peine de plus

de 2 ans) et les provinces (prisons, peines inférieures à 2 ans). Les grands ouvrages de droit

criminel ou de droit pénal abordent parfois ces questions. Devant la pauvreté relative des réfé-
