Summary:

The accused and his son were charged with the neglect of cattle contrary to s. 402 of the Criminal Code of Canada. The accused pleaded guilty. The trial court imposed a fine plus a probation order with conditions.

Criminal Law - Topic 5925

Sentence - Neglect of animals (Criminal Code, s. 402) - During February, 1982, 37 cattle died of starvation (out of a herd of 140) - The owner of the herd pleaded guilty to a charge of neglect of animals - The Saskatchewan Provincial Court imposed a fine of $400.00 plus a two year probation order which included a condition that any cattle owned by the accused between December 1 and March 31 be inspected monthly by a veterinarian.
