Summary:

This case arose out of a charge of manslaughter against the accused. The accused pleaded guilty. The Northwest Territories Supreme Court, after discussing the various circumstances to be considered in sentencing an accused, sentenced the accused to six years imprisonment.

C-34, s. 217 - The accused's wife died as a result of severe injuries sustained in a beating - Both the accused and his wife had been drinking at the time of the offence - The criminal record of the accused revealed four previous offences involving violence towards his wife - The Northwest Territories Supreme Court sentenced the accused to six years imprisonment - See paragraph 28.
