Summary:
The accused were charged with attempted murder, robbery, forcible confinement and numerous other offences arising out of a bank robbery. The accused sought an order that they not be manacled, handcuffed or be forced to wear security belts or other artificial mechanisms while in court; that there be limits on security personnel, weaponry and clothing of battle fatigue nature while they provided courtroom security; and that any restraint and security not be visible to the public, press and potential jurors.
The Ontario Court (General Division) determined the accused's requests accordingly.
