The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled that restaurants, bars, and hotels in Jasper National Park must continue to pay a regulatory fee in order to obtain licences to sell alcoholic beverages. The businesses had argued that the "fee" was a "tax". Taxes are outside of the jurisdiction of the Heritage Minister to levy, because under the Constitution, only Parliament can impose taxes.
